Rule 1: ‘And’ से जुड़े दो Subjects

जब दो Singular Nouns या Pronouns And से जुड़े हों, तो उनके साथ हमेशा Plural Verb का प्रयोग होता है।

Rule 3: Article का प्रयोग (A / An / The Rule)

  • केस A: यदि दो Nouns के साथ केवल पहले Noun से पहले Article (A/An/The) लगा हो, तो इसका अर्थ है कि व्यक्ति/वस्तु एक ही है Singular Verb

    • Correct: The Director and Producer has arrived. (एक ही व्यक्ति जो निदेशक और निर्माता दोनों है)

  • केस B: यदि दोनों Nouns से पहले Article लगा हो, तो इसका अर्थ है कि व्यक्ति/वस्तु दो अलग-अलग हैं Plural Verb

    • Correct: The Director and the Producer have arrived. (दो अलग-अलग व्यक्ति)

Rule 4: Connecting Words (As well as, Along with, With)

जब दो Subjects निम्नलिखित शब्दों से जुड़े हों, तो Verb हमेशा पहले Subject (1st Subject) के अनुसार प्रयोग होगी:

Words: As well as, Along with, Together with, With, In addition to, Accompanied by, Besides, Except, Rather than, Like, Unlike.

  • Example 1: The Captain, along with his team members, was present. (Verb ‘Captain’ [Singular] के अनुसार ‘was’ होगी)

  • Example 2: My friends as well as my brother are coming. (Verb ‘My friends’ [Plural] के अनुसार ‘are’ होगी)

Rule 5: Distributive Words (Either…Or, Neither…Nor, Not only…But also)

जब दो Subjects Either...or, Neither...nor, Not only...but also, या Or से जुड़े हों, तो Verb हमेशा निकटतम Subject (2nd / Nearest Subject) के अनुसार प्रयोग होगी।

  • Example 1: Neither Rohit nor his friends have attended the party. (Verb निकटतम Subject ‘his friends’ के अनुसार ‘have’)

  • Example 2: Either you or he is responsible for this mistake. (Verb निकटतम Subject ‘he’ के अनुसार ‘is’)

Rule 6: Each, Every, Either, Neither का नियम

Each, Every, Everyone, Someone, Nobody, Either, Neither शब्दों के साथ हमेशा Singular Verb और Singular Pronoun () का प्रयोग होता है।

  • Incorrect: Each of the students have completed their homework.

  • Correct: Each of the students has completed his homework.

  • Correct: Every boy and every girl was given a prize.

Rule 7: Collective Nouns (समूहवाचक संज्ञा)

Collective Nouns (जैसे- Jury, Committee, Team, Army, Class, Family, Government) के साथ:

  • यदि पूरा समूह एकमत (United) होकर कार्य करे Singular Verb

  • यदि समूह के सदस्यों में मतभेद या विभाजन (Divided) हो Plural Verb

Rule 8: Uncountable Nouns

Uncountable Nouns (अगणनीय संज्ञाएँ) जैसे—Information, Furniture, Advice, Machinery, Poetry, Equipment, Luggage, Hair, Knowledge, Scenery के साथ हमेशा Singular Verb का प्रयोग होता है।

  • Incorrect: The furnitures are very old.

  • Correct: The furniture is very old.

Rule 9: Distance, Amount, Weight, Time (निश्चित मात्रा/माप)

जब कोई Plural Noun किसी निश्चित राशि (Amount), दूरी (Distance), समय (Time) या वजन (Weight) को एक इकाई (Single Quantity) के रूप में दर्शाता है, तो Singular Verb का प्रयोग होता है।

Rule 10: ‘A Number of’ vs ‘The Number of’
